Couple Pledges $1.5M for Patient Facility

A Katy-area couple in the middle of their battle with cancer has pledged $1.5 million to help build a new home-away-from-home for patients undergoing treatment for life-threatening illnesses. Announcement of the gift from Erin and Monty Ballard came Sept. 1, as supporters of Cinco Charities toured a three-bedroom Katy-area residence recently loaned to the volunteer organization by the same couple until a permanent facility can be built.

Local Charity Provides Housing to Influx of Patients

A Katy-based organization, Cinco Charities has found a different way to help patients and their families during treatment of a terminal illness. Distinct from the Cotton Foundation, Cinco Charities does not have a facility. Rather, this organization applies a budget to housing its approved applicants. Within the month of December, Cinco Charities’ Board of Directors approved four applications to provide nearly $8,000 in support to house patients and their family members.

Local Organization Provides Housing for Out-of-Town Patients

Katy is a great place to visit. Just ask Diana Kerrigan, an orapharyngeal cancer patient. When patients like Kerrigan come from out-of-town for treatments, lodging can be an issue. With this in mind, the associates of Keller Williams Realty Katy @ Cinco Ranch formed Cinco Charities. Their goal is to provide temporary housing for patients and their families who are hospitalized or receiving treatment for serious medical needs.

Cinco Charities Hosts First Guest

You have cancer. When Lionel Sleeper, 44 years of age and a resident of Austin, first heard these words he, quite naturally, was taken aback. But Lionel didn’t waste time, for there was none to be wasted. He contact M.D. Anderson, the world-renowned cancer treatment center location in Houston to schedule the surgery he needed to remove the cancerous growth.
