In 2004, Mo Anderson, Vice Chairperson for Keller Williams Realty International, issued a challenge to every Keller Williams office in the country to "leave a legacy" in the communities in which they work. The associates of Keller Williams Premier Realty in Katy took that to heart and decided to establish a charity whose goal was to provide temporary housing for patients and their caregivers coming to the Katy area for treatment of life threatening illnesses.
We started by housing families in nearby hotels and extended stay facilities, while we worked towards the ultimate goal of building our own "house" for our guests. In 2011, after a visit to her oncologist, local resident Erin Ballard was introduced to Cinco Charities by Dr. Sunil Patel with MD Anderson in Katy and soon afterward, Mrs. Ballard donated the use of one of her rental properties to Cinco Charities to further our mission. That home became known as Erin's House.
On September 1, 2011, an open house was hosted by The Ballards and Cinco Charities at Erin's House to current guests, local dignitaries, supporters and press. It was only then that an emotional Monty Ballard stunned the gathering with his announcement of a major additional gift, a pledge to fund the construction of a 24 room, permanent facility that would become known as The Ballard House. The Ballard House is now under construction on S. Mason Rd. near Creech Elementary.
The Ballard House is located on 3 acres in Katy, Texas on S. Mason Rd. in the master planned community of Cinco Ranch. The 20,000 square foot hospitality house is currently under construction, and will feature 24 guest suites, a chapel, library, game room, family room, kitchen, a serenity garden and corporate offices onsite. The Ballard House, a Cinco Charities Community should open at the end of October and will enable Cinco Charities to house up to 24 patients and their guests each night. It will also enable us to house patients longer term.
